RAK Customs receives its first shipment ever initiated under the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR) on collaboration between the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The shipment is the first to be initiated under the ‘TIR’ Convention thanks to the collaboration between the Federal Customs Authority (FCA), the Automobile and Touring Club for UAE (ATCUAE), the active member and guarantor in the UAE, and the KSA General Customs Authority.
The International Transport of goods Under Cover of TIR provides many advantages to both the commercial companies and the customs administrations all over the globe, of which the most important are minimization of the national requirements for transit procedures, and reduction of the need for physical inspection in the countries through which the goods transit.
The shipment, which belongs to the Ace Crane company from the South Free Zones (Al Hamra) in Ras Al Khaimah, is comprised of electricity generators under the cover of the ‘TIR’ Convention and has recently entered into the South Free Zones.
These countries will limit the customs control measures taken due to those initiated in the country of departure, with exception to cases of suspicion, which will save the time, effort and cost associated with the working manpower and facilities for both the exporting companies and the customs administrations.
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al Mehrezi, the Director General of the Customs Department, said that the receipt of the first shipment under the cover of the “TIR” in collaboration between the UAE and the KSA confirms how deep the commercial partnership that links the two sisterly counties.
He added that the economic integration plans are proceeding steadily towards achieving the ambitious aspirations of both the wise leadership and the people of the two countries.
This will strengthen and support the local, regional and international land transport system, and will increase the international and intraregional movement of trade together with promoting the levels of competitiveness of both the two countries at the international level.
Al Mehrez pointed out that facilitation of trade, simplification of customs procedures in the free zones and application of the international conventions and agreements all form the goals of the Customs Department’s strategy.
“There is no doubt that the “TIR” Convention will significantly contribute to achieving these goals by accelerating the transportation processes and protecting the revenue of the UAE through securing the payment of the applicable customs duties and taxes approved under the international pacts, agreements and conventions,” Al Mehrezi said.
