RAK Customs stops an Arab young man with tablets and narcotics in his possession

The inspectors noticed an indication given by the baggage x-ray machine highlighting the presence of medical tablets in the box, upon which it was referred to the manual inspection. HE Dr. Mohammed Al Mehrezi, Director General of RAK Customs Department, said that the vigilance of customs inspectors at RAK International Airport, their sense of security and wide knowledge of body language enabled them to intercept the Arab man with the narcotics concealed in an ambiguous box.

A customs inspector at RAK International Airport was successfully able to stop a young man from an Arab nationality who arrived in the UAE via the Airport with a large quantity of tablets and narcotics in his possession. The man attempted to smuggle the narcotics into the UAE by concealing them in a sweet box.

The customs inspectors noticed an indication that the box may contain medical tablets within. The screening raised the inspectors' suspicion, and the box was referred to the manual inspection. It was evident that it contained a large quantity of tablets and narcotics towards its bottom. The man was referred to the competent authorities in order to initiate the necessary legal proceedings against him. "The Department is very keen to develop its human resources, with particular focus on customs inspectors who undertake technical and field work," Al Mehrezi said. This is currently achieved by putting customs inspectors through specialised training programmes in different related areas, including body language, customs search, use of technically advanced inspection equipment to detect smuggling attempts. Al Mehrezi added that inspectors and officers are very vigilant and are alerted to foil any smuggling attempts, whether conducted through misusing imported or exported items. "This proves the high sense of security our inspectors enjoy, and we at the Higher Administration of RAK Customs, do believe in developing our human resources as they are the main manpower of customs working and the Department's main portal to partners and customers," Al Mehrezi said. Al Mehrezi thanked customs staff at RAK International Airport for their effort made to ensure and maintain the safety and security of society and for the vigilance they pursue at work.
